What the SEC and EDGAR are: where the data comes from
The SEC is the US securities regulator; EDGAR is its public system where every filing is submitted. Everything on GestorLens comes from there.
Which filings we use
13F (quarterly portfolios), 13D and 13G (5%+ stakes), Form 4 (insider trades), 8-K (material events) and XBRL financial statements (balance sheets and results).
It is public and free
Anyone can browse EDGAR. Our job is reading millions of documents, fixing errors (scales, amendments, CUSIP changes) and presenting them clearly, linking to the original.
Frequently asked questions
Can SEC data contain errors?
Yes, each manager files them and they sometimes contain scale or identifier errors. We fix them with mechanical rules, and each manager page links to the exact 13F document so it can be checked.
