What is a CEDEAR and how it relates to 13F filings
A certificate traded on the Argentine exchange that represents shares of foreign companies. It lets investors in Argentina buy many of the stocks large managers hold.
How it works
Each CEDEAR equals a fraction (or several) of the original share, per its conversion ratio. It trades on BYMA in pesos and also in dollars, and its price follows the foreign share and the exchange rate.
The link with 13F filings
13F filings show US stocks. Many of the most held by large managers (Apple, Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon, Berkshire) have CEDEARs. Before buying, check the ratio, liquidity and your broker's costs.
Frequently asked questions
Is buying a CEDEAR the same as buying the share?
Economically similar, but not the same: there is a conversion ratio, the exchange rate, local liquidity and its own costs.
