What is a family office

The firm that manages the fortune of a very wealthy family or person. Several legendary investors ended up managing only their own money this way.

Why they matter

With no outside clients they can concentrate and think long term. Stanley Druckenmiller (Duquesne Family Office) is the most followed example.

Do they file 13F?

Yes, if they exceed US$ 100 million in US stocks. The rule is the same for every institutional manager.
